Ten Tors Jubilee Event

It’s an extra special Newsletter this week for the group of our Class 12 pupils who participated in the Ten Tors Jubilee event, a significant achievement and a memorable experience for all involved.

The Ten Tors challenge, known for its demanding outdoor navigation and teamwork, provided these pupils with an excellent opportunity to develop confidence, and practical skills in a supportive environment and encouraged independence, while also promoting physical fitness and a deeper appreciation for nature. It was inspiring to see how they supported one another, demonstrating determination and teamwork that truly embodied the spirit of Ten Tors.

The Ten Tors event began with an enthusiastic cheer and warm wishes of good luck from all the staff at Mill Water School, setting an encouraging tone for the adventure ahead. The group then set off to Oakhampton, fully equipped and ready for the challenge. Upon arrival, the pupils explored the area and were thrilled to have the unique opportunity to step inside a Royal Navy helicopter, adding an exciting highlight to their experience.

As evening approached, they set up camp and enjoyed a meal of fish and chips paired with hot chocolate — the perfect way to relax and recharge before the big day ahead. The overnight camp fostered a sense of teamwork, preparing the pupils mentally and physically for the event.
When the big day arrived, all five pupils showed incredible determination and effort throughout the event. Supported by a dedicated team of Mill Water staff, their hard work paid off as they crossed the finish line together.
The pride on everyone’s faces was unmistakable as each pupil received their well-deserved medal.

Each of the boys who took part in the Ten Tors event was asked, "What was your favourite part of the Ten Tors experience?"

Here are their individual responses:

“I enjoyed the fish + chips supper on the Friday.”

“I felt proud getting the medal at the end.”

“I enjoyed sleeping in the tent even though it was cold!”

“Drinking hot chocolate was nice.”

“Seeing the helicopters.”

They were also asked what they enjoyed as a group:

“We liked being woken up with music and being with lots of other teams. We liked coming across the finishing line and being welcomes by lots of people clapping. We would have liked more light in the tent because it was very dark!”

This unforgettable experience not only marked a significant achievement but also brought lasting benefits, building confidence, independence, and a deep sense of accomplishment among the pupils. The Ten Tors event was truly a remarkable success for the Class 12 group, showcasing their strength and spirit every step of the way.

Big thanks to the staff who gave up their weekend to support such a worthwhile cause.

Sailability

In other news, Year 11 pupils from class 9 thoroughly enjoyed their time on the water with Sailability. They took a little while to find their sea legs but soon felt brave enough to go to the side of the boat and look out over the water. They had lovely weather conditions and there were lots of smiles and excitement all round.
