24th June 2022

Dear Parents/Carers

Special Award

Well done to our Class 11 pupil for receiving a special award for good listening and joining in.

Outdoor Learning

This week’s Outdoor Learning topic has been flowers and colour. Here, Class 3 pupils are exploring textures and colours through flower and tile printing, in the shade of our apple orchard.

PTFA cake stall

Mill Water will have a cake stall at the Bicton 10k Race event by Bicton College on Sunday 3rd July, 9am-11.30am. Please support this fundraiser by sending in baked or shop bought cakes on Friday 1st July, or pop along on the morning to provide help and join in the fun!

Bike donation

The Steggles family, whose son is in Class 5, has generously donated the specialist trike that he has outgrown. The sturdy bike will be ideal for our ‘middle school’ pupils and looks brand new. Mum Sarah said: “I am so happy that it will get use and be valued!”

Fundraising round-up

Naked Wines plc - Home

Mill Water parent Patrick Gill, who has a daughter in Class 11, kindly arranged for the company Naked Wines to donate £1,500 towards our new playground appeal. The company, which Patrick works for, invites employees to nominate good causes for their charitable funds. We are currently raising money to transform a little-used courtyard into a colourful outdoor exercise area, with a sunken trampoline and gym equipment. Thank you Patrick and family!

Small Grants Scheme 2022-23 opens for applications - Devon Children and Families Partnership

We are also delighted to have been awarded £10,000 from Devon County Council’s Small Grants Scheme. This will also go towards our new exercise area, which we hope to install during the October half term holidays. We have now raised £11,500 of our £31,000 target for this school improvement project.

And, the sale of pupils’ home-grown flowers and plants raised £18.95 from purchases and donations at East Budleigh village community shop. This has been added to the money already raised through Outdoor Learning’s rural enterprise project. It will be reinvested into the scheme and help play for new seeds and gardening equipment. Well done to all the pupils involved!

Parent Survey

Closing date for the parent survey will be next Monday - 27th June. We really value your opinions and it will inform our next stages of school development. “You’ve got to be in it to win it”
