A Fun-Filled Day at Crealy!

We had a fantastic time at Crealy Theme Park this week! The weather held out beautifully, and our pupils enjoyed a thrilling day of rides and free play. From the heart-stopping twists of the Maximus rollercoaster to the delightful animals, there was something for everyone. I think the hardest part was having to wait until Wednesday.

A big thank you to all the staff who helped make the trip such a success, and of course, to our fantastic pupils for their excellent behaviour throughout the day. A lot of staff said they were proud to have been representing Mill Water School.

Get Ready to Celebrate African Week! 

Next week is African Week at Mill Water. We're excited to immerse ourselves in the rich culture and vibrant traditions of Africa. Pupils will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of exciting activities, including:

    • African Art Workshops: Learn traditional techniques for creating beautiful African masks, sculptures, and textiles.
    • African dancing: there will be a lot of stomping and smiling during these sessions
    • Drumming Workshops: Get your heart racing with the pulsating rhythms of African drumming!

Family Fund: Discover More Support

National charity Family Fund have launched a new 'Discover more support' search tool on their website. It can help you more easily find services best suited to you and your family.

Featuring topics like money and benefits, mental health and wellbeing, education and learning and disability, you can now browse through 130 trusted organisations listed on the new search tool – to find available support services in your local area, or nationally.

Our Neurodivergent Experience: See Into My World 

This is a free exhibition in Exeter on Friday 21st June 10am-4pm. There is no need to book, please just turn up. The works displayed are by local neurodivergent children and young people who wanted to communicate "What being neurodivergent means to me" through their art. 

Casino Night hosted by Exeter West Lions 

Tickets are still available for this fundraiser on Saturday 29th June, 7pm, at Fingle Glen Golf Club. We would love to see you there if you can make it! 

Transitions Open Day at Made-Well CIC

Enabling & support for young people and adults

Are you living with a learning or physical disability? Or have mental health and / or other related needs?

  • You may be leaving school / college unsure what to do next. 
  • You may not be attending school or only attending core subjects. 
  • Are you a social worker interested in finding out more about local opportunities for people in the area. 
  • Maybe you have a family member who would benefit from getting out and about, making friends and connections. 
  • Perhaps you are a organisation/provider or a care home supporting young people and adults, who would benefit from meeting others and socialising. 

Come along to our next open day to find out more about the many opportunities available at Made-Well, have a tour and join in with the days activities for free (subject to availability). 

Our cafe, inclusive play ground and allotment garden will all be open. Our site is wheelchair accessible, we have a Changing Places toilet and a sensory room.

Message from Devon County Council

Easy-to-read help for voting in the general election

There's a general election on Thursday 4 July, and we want everyone to use their vote. But for some people voting can be a difficult process to follow. 

Very few people with learning disabilities vote, and many do not even know they have the right to vote. It’s very important for people with a learning disability to have easy-read materials available to support them to be able to vote in elections. 

The My Vote My Voice campaign was set up to tackle this and we have worked with the Electoral Commission over the past year to help improve accessible voting. Mencap, the charity for people with learning disabilities, has worked with the Electoral Commission to produce accessible guides to support people in being able to vote.
