Newsletter 7th March 2025

7th March 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

We had a lovely time in school yesterday for world book day. Those pupils that wanted to dress up looked fantastic and I was able to make my yearly joke about coming to school as a witch. There is so much to share with you from the day, that a separate newsletter will be sent out early next week.

Spinning Classes at LED

Some pupils from Class 10 and Class 12 had the last (in a series of six) Spinning sessions at LED in Exmouth. The pupils excelled in different ways when joining in the sessions at the leisure centre.

Skills they have developed have included reporting in at the reception upon arrival; finding their own way to the studio; setting up their bike; following the lead from the instructor; selecting the right 'gear' on their bike during the different songs as well as wiping down afterwards.

It is of note how supportive LED Exmouth has been in welcoming our students into the centre and leading the sessions in such an inclusive manner. All the pupils have gained so much from the experiences.

Neurodivergence and Digital Harms Webinar

Safer Devon is running a free webinar to explore digital spaces that young people engage with, how these may influence their choices and expose them to risks and practical tips and guidance to support young people to keep safe.

The free webinar will explore:

    • why the digital world is a valuable space for many neurodivergent young people
    • how the online content young people interact with can shape their choices and may expose them to risks and harmful behaviours
    • practical tips and guidance on creating safe and supportive online spaces for young people

This session will be led by Alistair Barfield, who is AuDHD, and a leading expert in neurodivergence and digital harms.

It will take place online on Thursday 27th March at 7pm to 8pm.

Having a thriving, well-stocked school library, full of the books that children really want to read or be read to, is key to inspiring and engaging our pupils and we’d like to ask our community to help us make this a reality in our school, benefitting all of our children. Our Wish List contains the books and resources we’d love to stock our library and classrooms with but don’t have funds for currently.

The books on the Wish List are all available for donation and many of them will also earn us 20p in extra free books for every £1 you spend.

You can browse our Mill Water School Book Wish List and if you decide to order something from the list, you can do so securely online.

Your donation will be delivered directly to school.

Thank you for supporting our school!

Our Wish List closes on 4th April 2025.
