10th November 2023

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for your understanding last week when we closed for the weather warning. Although we came through relatively unscathed, there were some road closures and localised flooding issues. It was regrettable that we had to make that decision, but due to the significant unpredictability and the potential for the warning to be upgraded to red: we joined the 200+ schools that closed for one day.

Remembrance Day Parade

Class 10 attended the Remembrance Day Parade at the front of Bicton College today. This is an annual gathering where students, teachers and the military academy, all come together to remember our fallen soldiers. Pupils that were unable to join the parade, took part in class art activities.

Parliament Week

This week is Parliament Week and Class 8 and 12 have been taking part in lots of different Parliament-related activities. These activities included making a Big Ben tower, creating and presenting PowerPoint presentations - filled with the facts we have learned about Parliament - and a class debate!

Learning About Time

This week class 7 have enjoyed starting our learning about time. We began with some class challenges, having fun measuring how many playdough balls we could create in 1 minute or 3 minutes, noting patterns and making predictions about how many we could make in 5 minutes! We have also enjoyed making apple crumble, working collaboratively to read the recipe, make the crumble and taste the results.

‘All About Me’ Art Workshops

Pupils have been busy working on their ‘All About Me’ artwork with visiting artist Nic George. There will be a chance to see their finished pieces at our all-school art exhibition in the hall on Thursday 23rd November.

Festivals and Traditions

Class 5 has started its topic on festivals and traditions. Last week pupils had a Halloween afternoon, where they had a go at designing their own pumpkins, carving pumpkins and sorting pictures as to whether they were things they expected to see on Halloween or not.

Safe to say that 31st November was a very spooky day in the whole school, with a Halloween parade, disco and pumpkin carving! A big thank you to Exmouth and Honiton Tesco stores for donating pumpkins.

Folk Music Performance

Folk musicians Kit Hawes and Aaron Catlow from Live Music Now came to perform to the whole school on Tuesday. Pupils engaged with lots of clapping and feet stomping. Some pupils even joined in with an impromptu break-dance and a rendition of ‘We Will Rock You’!

Rebound Certificates

Children in Class 4 having been enjoying regular sessions in the rebound room. They have been working towards the Rebound Winstrada Standards. L, H, R and K have all been awarded their Grade One certificates. They have worked hard completing lots of activities including bouncing on their knees, standing in stillness on the trampoline while being gently bounced & being bounced in a hands and knees position. A huge well done to them all!

Play Park Outing

The sun was shining this week when Class 6 visited East Budleigh play park. They had lots of fun at the park and practiced their out and about listening skills.

Autism Coffee Morning

A free coffee morning is being held in Exmouth for all parents and carers of people with autism, on The Deck (1st floor) of Ocean on Thursday 16th November, 10am-12pm. This is being run by the Devon coordinators of Bristol Autism Support.
